A subject matter that I discussed in my first post was about exposure to lesser known artists and that's something I would hope to be able to have an impact on if I did have a guitar curation channel. One priority for me if I were to ever make a YouTube channel for classical guitar music would be to help the the lesser known artists get their name out there. This is a something that I would not take lightly because one of my favorite guitarists on YouTube by the name of Daniel Volovets plays some of the most beautiful guitar I've heard yet he only has 2k subscribers on YouTube. Just as an example, this one of his original compositions called the 'Fantasie for Don Quixote' named after the story. Structurally, the song takes a lot of influence from flamenco and Spanish styles of guitar playing. This is just one of the many creative and original songs that Daniel Volovets has made, and there are many artists out there with outstanding skill level, but just haven't received the exposure on the internet that they deserve.
This is something that I can empathize with because I know that there are many of those starving musician types out there who are living paycheck to paycheck off of side-jobs like being a music teacher or teaching lessons. As an aside, my guitar teacher was one of those struggling musicians that was surviving paycheck to paycheck off of teaching guitar lessons, so I'd love to be able to help out those kind of artists because it's something that I've seen kind of firsthand.

One of my favorite sub genres of classical music, specifically for the guitar, is baroque era classical guitar. The term baroque is a generalization for the "period of European art music from about 1600 to 1750" (What is Baroque Music). If I were to do a YouTube channel for classical guitar music I think that I'd have some contemporary classical guitar music, but I would primarily have baroque era guitar music because to me it stands out as a period with plenty of technicality and energy even though it's an older and lesser known style of music. One distinguishing example of this kind of music would be from composers such as Gaspar Sanz, who in my opinion is one of the greatest forefathers of the classical guitar. My favorite piece by him probably would be Canarios, which is a part of a whole publication of his called "Instruccion de musica sobre la guitara espanola" (Gaspar Sanz). Going further in depth with this song as an example, I believe that a lot of Spanish classical guitar music could be something that could reach out to a lot more people than just the guitarist demographic and something that many could enjoy given the proper exposure. The style of music is therapeutic, has technicality to its composition, and is somewhat high energy. With that being said, I would prefer to have contemporary musicians play this kind of music so that they could bring a bit of their own style and spice to the compositions, like the guitarist in the video.

One of the greatest facets of the internet is its inherent ability to allow users to discover new content whether it be music, food recipes, video games, bodybuilding, etc. YouTube happens to be a plentiful resource for content discovery, especially when it comes to music. Even though there are many ways to discover music like spotify, last fm, and many others, I think that the community that comes along with YouTube channels can sometimes be more communal and help you find music you might be more interested in. In the past, all people really had to discover music were TV channels like MTV or VH1, but with the internet you can find very specific sub categories of music and discover many hidden gems. Additionally, there are youtube channels that do music curation for certain genres of music. One of my favorite ones is the Chillhop Music channel, which curates a lot of lo-fi hip hop music usually from lesser known artists. Their channel has nearly a million subscribers and on the live radio for their channel, they typically have 3-4 thousand concurrent viewers. There are many similar channels to this, but with different genres associated to it, and an idea that I would love to do hypothetically is curate classical guitar music that could range from Spanish, baroque, flamenco, etc. Even though the genre of classical guitar music is certainly not as popular, I think that having a channel dedicated to preserving that kind of music for anybody with access to YouTube could prove to be something worthwhile since classical guitar music is something that is very endearing to me.
